"China has imported a total of 250 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas, " Sun Weidong, Ambassador of the people's Republic of China to Turkmenistan, said in an exclusive interview with Turkmenportal on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the PRC's founding on October 1.
China has become the largest gas partner of our country after the gas pipeline with a length of more than 1800 km, which runs through the territory of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and China, was put into operation in 2009. It is the world's longest cross-border gas pipeline, dubbed the "energy silk road of the new century" and has become a model for the construction of "one belt, one road".
"On the one hand, the Chinese-Turkmen gas cooperation provides a long-term and stable source of natural gas for China, on the other hand, it has opened a new way to diversify gas export routes, which has become an important source of foreign exchange earnings for Turkmenistan and significantly contributed to its socio – economic progress," Sun Weidong said.
According to the Ambassador, the Chinese side is ready to make joint efforts with the Turkmen side to expand and develop bilateral energy cooperation, jointly ensure the safe and stable operation of the Turkmenistan – China gas pipeline, actively discuss cooperation in the fields of gas processing, renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy, etc., as well as to promote the consistent development of energy cooperation between China and Turkmenistan.
