UNDP and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Launch the Fourth Phase of a Joint Project on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan are continuing their strategic partnership by launching the fourth phase of the joint project “"Partnering for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) acceleration".

The agreement marks a new stage in long-standing cooperation to advance Turkmenistan’s national priorities and reaffirms the country’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, officially adopted in September 2016.

The fourth phase of the project is designed to further strengthen Turkmenistan’s national capacity for the effective implementation and monitoring of the SDGs. Focus will be placed on supporting the advancement of development financing initiatives in preparation for Turkmenistan’s third Voluntary National Review on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The project will also enhance the capacity of local executive authorities to integrate sustainable development principles at the regional level.

“Continuing this strategic partnership will further strengthen national mechanisms for SDG implementation and create the conditions for sustainable economic and social progress across all regions of the country,” noted Ms. Narine Sahakyan, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan.

The joint project of UNDP and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan will serve as an important platform for coordinating the efforts of various ministries and agencies, international partners, and civil society, bringing together stakeholders to advance the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Turkmenistan.
