Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a working meeting with Deputy Prime Minister T. Atahalliyev and regional governors to discuss the development of the agricultural sector and the progress of work in the country's regions, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
The Deputy Prime Minister reported on the progress of seasonal agricultural campaigns in the country. As reported, in order to fulfill the president's instructions to grow a bountiful wheat harvest and further strengthen food abundance, crops are being tended in accordance with agricultural standards.
In preparation for cotton sowing, the land is ploughed, harrowed, and ridged. To ensure cotton growers receive high-quality seeds, ginning plants process and select the seed material.
In addition, work is underway in the velayats to prepare land areas, potato and vegetable and melon seeds, and agricultural machinery for spring sowing.
Summarizing the report, the head of state emphasized the important role of agriculture in the national economy, noting the need for systematic modernization of the sector to enhance food abundance and implement scientifically sound innovative approaches and best international practices. The president gave the deputy prime minister a number of instructions.
Addressing the meeting participants, Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the ongoing seasonal agricultural activities in the provinces, instructing them to ensure that plowing and leveling of land for cotton is carried out in accordance with agricultural standards, that cotton producers are supplied with sufficient, high-quality seeds, that equipment is properly prepared for sowing, that wheat is cared for within the appropriate agricultural timeframes, and that careful preparation for the spring planting of potatoes, vegetables, and melons is ensured.
The President also instructed service institutions and enterprises to strictly monitor payments to cotton and wheat producers, as well as rice producers in the Lebap velayat and sugar beet producers in the Mary velayat. Furthermore, he instructed them to take the necessary measures to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of work planned for the current year, in accordance with the 2022-2028 National Socioeconomic Development Program and the National Rural Program.
