Kazakhstan sees prospects for transit through Turkmenistan to Iran

Kazakhstan views the transport route through Turkmenistan to Iran, with access to seaports, as a promising area for developing transit traffic. This was stated by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in an interview with the Kazakh newspaper Turkistan.

"Our country is actively participating in the development of China's Belt and Road megaproject, the North-South Corridor, and the Trans-Caspian Transport Route, or Middle Corridor. We believe that shipping along the Russia-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran route, with access to seaports, is promising. We welcome China's participation in the Middle Corridor," Tokayev said.

The head of state emphasized the significant potential in the transport and logistics sector. "Overall, the potential in this sector is enormous. It's not just a question of infrastructure. Practically all sectors of our economy converge at this fundamental point," the President of Kazakhstan noted.

Tokayev added that the Kazakh government has been tasked with constructing transport and logistics hubs with modern engineering and service infrastructure, modernizing and renovating seaports, airports, and railway stations, and creating an effective digital ecosystem.
