The Turkmenistan U17 team completed its Asian Cup qualifying tournament, finishing second in group F. Despite defeating Mongolia 6-2 in their final match, the team failed to advance to the final stage of the tournament after Thailand defeated Kuwait 3-0.
The match in Chonburi, Thailand, got off to a bad start for Turkmenistan. In the 16th minute, Enerel Gurragchaa intercepted a poor pass from Timur Pastushenko and passed to Munkh-Orgil Yadamsuren, whose shot off the crossbar opened the scoring for Mongolia.
Turkmenistan equalized in the 22nd minute thanks to an own goal by Temuun Jargalen. In the 34th minute, Hudaynazar Meredov gave the Turkmen team the lead, beating a defender in the penalty area and firing a precise shot into the near corner.
In the second half, Ahmet Allaberdyev's men consolidated their lead. Meredov scored twice in the 47th minute, followed by Suleymannazar Govshudov in the 49th. Ovezmyrat Ovezmyradov added another in the 75th minute, and Garid Bat-Amgalan scored an own goal in the 77th minute. In the 90th minute, Khanbileg Sainbileg converted a penalty, making the final score 6-2.
After completing all matches, Thailand finished first in group F with 9 points and qualified for the Asian Cup finals, which will be held from May 7 to 24, 2026, in Saudi Arabia. A 3-0 victory over Kuwait allowed the tournament hosts to secure first place in the qualifying round thanks to a superior goal difference of 16-4.
Turkmenistan finished the qualifying round in second place with 9 points (goal difference 15:5). Kuwait also scored 9 points but finished third (11:6).
