Turkmenistan is in talks with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) to implement the second and third stages of development of the Galkynysh gas field, with a total capacity of 63 billion cubic meters of marketable gas per year. This was announced by Maksat Babayev, Chairman of the “Turkmengaz” State Concern, at a press conference following the OGT-2025 project.
"Regarding “Turkmengaz'” field development projects, we are currently working on the second and third stages of the Galkynysh field. We are currently negotiating with CNPC regarding the second stage—development of the Galkynysh field, which will produce 30 billion cubic meters of marketable gas per year. Regarding the third stage of the Galkynysh field, which will produce 33 billion cubic meters of marketable gas per year, we are currently negotiating with ADNOC," Babayev said.
The Galkynysh field has been in production since 2013. Its area exceeds 5 thousand square kilometers, and its reserves are estimated at 27,4 trillion cubic meters of gas. Seven stages of commercial development are planned for the field.
The first phase was successfully commissioned, and three gas processing plants with a total capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year were built. The fourth phase of the project, with a design capacity of 10 billion cubic meters per year, will be implemented by CNPC, which won the international tender. Project implementation is scheduled to begin in 2026.
The International Conference and Exhibition "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan 2025" (OGT 2025) was held in Ashgabat from October 22–24.
