From 25 to 29 August 2025, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Turkmenistan, in partnership with the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan, held a series of digital transformation trainings for representatives of the country’s public and private sectors.
These activities were part of a joint UNDP–Ministry project on developing the Concept and the State Programme on the Digital Economy of Turkmenistan for 2026–2028. The initiative aims to promote sustainable economic development through the introduction of digital technologies, improved governance efficiency, and support for innovation.

The trainings gathered representatives from nearly 30 ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan. The programme was designed to strengthen institutional capacity, foster a strategic approach to digitalization, and integrate modern digital solutions into the daily work of government institutions.
In parallel, an intensive programme was organized for private sector participants, ranging from entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises to innovative start-ups.

Key topics included: digital transformation of public administration, development and implementation of digital strategies, assessment of organizational digital maturity, cybersecurity and data management, and international best practices in public sector digitalization.
All sessions were facilitated by UNDP’s international expert on digital transformation, Aare Laponin, who shared advanced global practices and tools successfully applied in various countries.

The trainings marked an important milestone in preparing for the implementation of the Concept and the State Programme on the Digital Economy, as part of joint initiatives to build a sustainable digital infrastructure, develop human capital, and expand opportunities for growth and economic diversification in Turkmenistan.
