French Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Spanish Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the first round of the group stage of the FIFA Club World Cup. The group B match took place in the American city of Pasadena, California.
The goals for the current Champions League holders were scored by Fabian Ruiz (19th minute), Vitinha (45+1), Senny Meulu (87) and Lee Kang-in (90+7, penalty). Madrid defender Clement Lenglet was sent off in the 78th minute for a second yellow card.
In the second round on June 19, PSG will face Brazilian Botafogo, and Atletico will play against American Seattle Sounders.
In the other match of the day, Bayern Munich defeated New Zealand's Auckland City 10-0. The group C game took place in Cincinnati, USA.
Jamal Musiala scored a hat-trick for the current German champions (68, 73, 84th minutes), one of the goals was scored from the penalty spot. Michael Oliseh (20, 45+3), Thomas Müller (45, 89) and Kingsley Coman (6, 22) scored two goals each. Sascha Boe (18) also scored.
The Bavarians set a new scoring record in Club World Cup matches, surpassing the achievement of Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal, who beat Al-Jazira (UAE) 6-1 in the previous format of the tournament in 2021. Group C also includes Argentina's Boca Juniors and Portugal's Benfica.
The Club World Championship is being held for the first time with 32 teams participating. The tournament final is scheduled for July 13.
