On April 6, a large protest took place in Los Angeles with the participation of hundreds of representatives of the film and television industry. The participants of the protest called for the resumption of full funding for Hollywood, which is experiencing a serious crisis, RUNEWS24.RU reports with reference to NBC News.
The rally was attended by over a thousand people, including actors, assistants, make-up artists and other film industry professionals. The main demand of those gathered was the expansion of the tax incentive system for film and television projects.
According to Alex Aguilar Jr., director of LiUNA Local 724, the protesters are experiencing significant financial hardship. He emphasized that while the cost of living has risen, their incomes and the number of available jobs have not increased. Aguilar Jr. added that the company receives daily calls from people who have lost their jobs and do not have the means to pay for housing and support their families.
Statistics cited by NBC News show a significant drop in occupancy rates on Los Angeles soundstages. While the figure was around 90% between 2016 and 2022, it has dropped to 63% this year. Factors that have negatively impacted the industry include the coronavirus pandemic, devastating wildfires, and a series of strikes that have engulfed Hollywood.
