President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced plans to commission a new International Airport Complex in the village of Jebel in the Balkan Velayat in 2025. The statement was made at an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers when summing up the results of economic development in 2024.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the “Program for the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan and investments in 2025”. The new airport will occupy an area of 275 hectares and will include passenger and cargo terminals, a control center, as well as rescue and fire service buildings. The runway of the complex will be able to accommodate most types of aircraft.

The construction of the international airport in Jebel, which began on July 14 on the initiative of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, is a strategically important project for the western region of the country. The Balkan Velayat, where Jebel is located, is known for its developed oil and gas industry and proximity to the Caspian Sea.

The emergence of a new international air hub is intended to improve the transport accessibility of the region and create additional opportunities for the development of business and tourism ties between Turkmenistan and other countries.
