A large-scale study of the impact of climate disasters on the global economy has revealed colossal financial losses. According to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), an analysis of four thousand natural disasters – from floods to droughts – showed that the total damage reached $2 trillion, daily.afisha.ru reports with reference to The Guardian.
Particularly alarming is the fact that in the last two years alone, economic losses amounted to $451 billion. According to ICC Secretary General John Denton, these figures clearly demonstrate that climate change is already having a serious impact on the global economy.
The study, covering the period from 2014 to 2023, identified the hardest-hit countries. The leader in financial losses was the United States with damages of $935 billion. They are followed by China with losses of $268 billion and India, whose damage is estimated at $112 billion.
