Hong Kong and surrounding areas of China are preparing to meet super typhoon “Yagi”, which brings with it hurricane-force winds and the threat of serious destruction. Hong Kong authorities have already taken a number of preventive measures aimed at minimizing potential damage and ensuring the safety of the population, “MIR 24” reports with reference to the South China Morning Post.
At least 38 flights have already been cancelled, according to the Hong Kong International Airport Authority. The weather conditions are expected to rapidly worsen on Thursday evening and remain extremely unfavorable for about 24 hours. As a result, the Hong Kong Meteorological Observatory plans to raise the storm warning level to T8, the second-lowest level before the maximum T10.
Super typhoon “Yagi”, located 340 km southeast of Hong Kong on Thursday afternoon, is heading towards China's Hainan Province. The typhoon's center is packing winds of an impressive 58 meters per second, posing a serious threat to infrastructure and human life.
The authorities are taking emergency measures to ensure the safety of citizens. In Hong Kong, bus service to the airport will be suspended. In Hainan Province, which is in the path of the typhoon, bus and train service has already been suspended, and flights are planned to be cancelled.
