A study conducted by American scientists showed that 65% of popular brands of medical patches contain polyfluoroalkyl compounds (PFAS), which pose a potential health hazard. Snob.ru reports this with reference to Business Standard.
PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” are widely used in flame retardant materials, nonstick coatings, and food packaging. They are known to negatively affect the immune system, liver and kidneys.
Of particular concern is that the patches are applied to open wounds, which creates a direct route for “everlasting chemicals” into the human body through the blood.
In this regard, scientists are calling on patch manufacturers to either completely eliminate PFAS from their products or reduce their content as much as possible.
