Kazakh doctors have developed a unique device for long-term organ transplantation. It permits not only to store donor organs for more than a day, but even to treat them outside the body. The device is unique and has no analogues in the world, reports “MIR 24”.
Until recently, equipment from the USA was used for organ transplantation in Kazakhstan, which permitted the operation to be performed only within 4-6 hours. Now, thanks to the new device, doctors will have enough time to conduct the necessary studies of the donor material.
This year, scientists will conduct clinical trials of the new device and prepare it for mass production.
“We have already completed certain phases of animal research and the results are encouraging. We hope that with the support of the state, this project will receive further development, and we will already implement this project in the clinic”, - said Yuri Pya, Chairman of the Board of the University Medical Center.
At present time, due to lack of time to deliver donor hearts, more than 70% of them are discarded.
