Using scented candles can lead to serious health problems, including migraines, throat and eye irritation, and respiratory problems. This was stated by Dr. Tamas Pandics from Semmelweis University in Hungary, reports rambler.ru with reference to The Sun.
When burned, scented candles release particles of other pollutants into the air. Also, some candle manufacturers add essential oils, which can have a negative effect on the nervous system or cause skin irritation.
Additionally, some brands of candles use a wick that wraps cotton around another material, such as metal, creating toxic soot. This soot can lodge in the lungs and cause breathing problems.
“Regardless of whether they are manufactured artificially or occur naturally, every substance that is foreign to the body poses a chemical hazard”, - Pandics said.
