The best football player of the world in 2022, the winner of the “Golden ball” award, which is awarded by the French magazine France Football, will be announced on November 17.

The award ceremony will be held in Paris.

France Football announce the nominees of this award on August 12.

The “Golden ball” award is given annually from 1956, the ceremony of 202 was canceled because of coronavirus pandemic. From 1956 to 2006, the award was presented by voting between football journalists, since 2007, coaches and captains of national teams have received the right to vote. In 2010, the award became known as the “FIFA Golden Ball” — after the merger of the “France Football Golden Ball” and the “FIFA Player of the Year”, but since 2016, the two awards are again awarded separately.

In 2021, the “Golden ball” was given to Lionel Messi, “Paris Saint-Germain” club’s striker. The Argentine won this prize for the 7th time.

From 2022, the “Golden ball” will be awarded at the end of the season, and not a calendar year, as it is now. That is, the next award will find its owner at the end of the 2021/22 season. And the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in November — December, is already included in the results of the 2022/23 season and, accordingly, in the “Golden Ball” - 2023. Now only journalists from countries whose national teams are in the top 100 of the FIFA rating will be able to vote.
