The St. Petersburg Research Institute of Experimental Medicine has completed preclinical trials of the world's first edible vaccine against COVID-19.
As informs mir24, the ryazhenka flavoured preparation was developed on the basis of probiotic bacteria with the genome of the coronavirus spike protein. In order to protect from the disease, it will be enough to drink the required dose. Preclinical trials of the vaccine were carried out on Syrian hamsters, which, unlike mice and rabbits, are more difficult to tolerate the virus.
It is noted, that clinical trials of an edible vaccine against COVID-19 on volunteers will start soon.
Scientists have noticed, that the production of such vaccine is able to organize at any dairy plant, that is also ensures its availability.
