President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov sent his deepest condolences to the President of the United States of America Joseph Biden in connection with the severe hurricane in Kentucky, which caused numerous injuries and destruction, the “Vatan” news program of Turkmen television reported.
On behalf of the people and the Government of Turkmenistan, as well as on his own behalf, the head of state conveyed words of deep empathy and support at this difficult moment to the families, relatives and friends of the victims and wishes of a speedy recovery to the victims.
The death toll from a hurricane in the US state of Kentucky will exceed a hundred. This was stated by the governor of the state Andy Beshaer.
“This is a disaster that none of us have ever seen. As far as I know, we have lost more than 80 people, but the death toll will exceed a hundred,” Beshaer told CBS TV.
In total, about 30 tornadoes hit the region on Friday evening, covering, in particular, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee.
According to foreign media reports, dozens of people continue to be reported missing.
US President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Kentucky on Wednesday to assess the damage.
