Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan successfully launched the exchange of cargo data via the eTIR system

With the organizational support of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan have established an exchange of information on transit cargo transportation through the Caspian Sea using the eTIR digital system.

According to the website of the Customs Service of Turkmenistan, a test data exchange was successfully conducted on cargo shipments from Azerbaijan in transit through Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan, as well as cargo shipments from Turkmenistan in transit through Azerbaijan to the Republic of Türkiye.

This initiative became one of the first projects for direct exchange of information on transit road transport between the customs authorities of the two countries on the international transport corridor Europe-Central Asia.

The eTIR system enables the exchange of customs data in real time in electronic format, reduces paperwork, minimizes risks, and expedites customs procedures.

The eTIR system was implemented within the framework of the project "Development of regional connectivity through digitalization of customs and the creation of a 'Smart' customs system," the source notes.
