During his state visit to Georgia, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed establishing sister-city relations between the coastal cities of Turkmenbashy and Batumi. He made this announcement during talks with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
"Noting the importance of continuing the practice of establishing sister city relations between the cities of Turkmenistan and Georgia, the head of state noted that three years ago an Agreement on the establishment of sister city relations between the cities of Arkadag and Telavi was signed. In this regard, it was proposed to discuss the issue of establishing sister city relations between the coastal cities of Turkmenbashy and Batumi,” the statement said.
Kobakhidze, in turn, emphasized the importance of the proposals voiced by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and confirmed the Georgian side's readiness for the joint practical implementation of these initiatives, as well as for the development of bilateral cooperation in the transport and logistics, fuel and energy, and trade and economic sectors.
