The World Championship in equestrian sports and an Ahal-Teke horse beauty contest will take place from September 4 to 6, 2026, at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre in Kronenberg, the Netherlands. This was announced at a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The event is organized by the "Turkmen Atlary" State Association and the European Ahal-Teke Horse Association. The championship is timed to coincide with the "Independent Neutral Turkmenistan – Homeland of Spirited Winged Steeds" Year, observed in the country in 2026.
The championship will feature equestrian competitions, a horse beauty contest, and an international scientific conference on the Ahal-Teke breed, alongside an exhibition showcasing Turkmen culture and traditions. Performances by the "Galkynysh" National Equestrian Games Group and the State Circus of Turkmenistan are also scheduled. A high-level delegation from Turkmenistan is expected to participate in the events.
According to the briefing participants, the championship is intended to be an event of international significance and will allow guests to gain a closer acquaintance with Turkmenistan's unique cultural heritage.
Ahmet Berdyev, Director General of the "Turkmen Atlary" State Association, outlined the preliminary concept for an exhibition and fair event to be held as part of the championship at a briefing.
The "Maya Delorez" arena at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre—measuring 125 by 70 meters—has been designated for the trade fair. Plans call for it to be divided into five zones.
The first zone will house seven exhibition pavilions: those of the "Turkmen Atlary" State Association, the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, the "Turkmenhaly" State Association, and the Ministry of Textile Industry, as well as three pavilions dedicated to the activities of members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan. The design and content of the stands will reflect the specific nature of each sector.
The "Turkmen Atlary" pavilion will showcase the sector's activities regarding the breeding, preservation, and promotion of the Ahal-Teke horse breed, as well as achievements in selective breeding and horse care. The Ministry of Culture’s exposition will focus on the country’s historical and cultural heritage and the development of contemporary national art.The Ministry of Textile Industry will showcase product samples manufactured on modern production lines, including fabrics, clothing, and knitwear. The "Turkmenhaly" pavilion will feature the art of Turkmen carpet weaving, displaying both traditional and contemporary carpet designs.
Of the three pavilions belonging to the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the first is slated to showcase national garment-making and jewelry art; the second, musical culture and sculpture; and the third, pottery and ceramics.
The second zone will house the main stage for the championship’s opening and closing ceremonies and award presentations. The third zone will be designed as a Turkmen national ethnographic complex featuring traditional "gara oy" dwellings, "tapchan" platforms, and "tamdyr" ovens; the zone’s exhibits will be dedicated to Turkmenistan’s five "velayats", as well as the cities of Ashgabat and Arkadag.A dining area featuring traditional Turkmen dishes will be set up in the fourth zone. The fifth zone is designated as an arena for demonstration performances by the "Galkynysh" equestrian group.
A distinct feature of the exhibition will be a display of traditional Turkmen jewelry and artworks dedicated to Ahal-Teke horses, comprising examples of national jewelry and horse tack, as well as paintings, graphic art, and sculptures themed around the Ahal-Teke breed.
According to Berdyev, holding the exhibition-fair in conjunction with the championship will contribute to strengthening Turkmenistan’s international image as a nation with a rich cultural heritage and a high level of professional expertise in horse breeding and traditional crafts.
