Toyota has cancelled the new Lexus electric vehicle project

Toyota Motor announced the cancellation of the Lexus LF-ZC electric vehicle project, whose development was nearly complete. The decision to cancel was made at a meeting originally planned to discuss investment in tooling for the model's mass production, drom.ru reports.

According to Toyota Executive Vice President Yuki Nakajima, the LF-ZC was conceived as a technologically advanced electric vehicle. Its structural components were planned to make extensive use of lightweight alloy castings manufactured using GigaCast technology, as well as compact electric powertrain components.

Nakajima did not disclose the exact reason for abandoning the project. According to available reports, the decision may be related to the high cost of the vehicle or the company's doubts about sufficient demand for the model.

Moreover, some of the developments carried out within the framework of the LF-ZC project will be used in other promising vehicles of the company.

Toyota's vice president also noted that many of the specialists who worked on the LF-ZC took the news of the project's closure with regret, as a significant amount of time and effort had been invested in its creation.

A prototype of the Lexus LF-ZC was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in the fall of 2023. The 4,75-meter-long vehicle featured a streamlined body with a Cd coefficient of 0,2. The production version was planned to have a range of up to 1000 km on a single charge.
