NASA has announced the names of the astronauts who will be part of the “Artemis 3” crew, scheduled to launch in 2027 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The expedition will include American astronauts Andre Douglas, Frank Rubio and Randy Bresnik, as well as Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano from the European Space Agency (ESA).
The mission does not include a lunar landing. The data collected during the mission is planned to be used to prepare the next stage of the lunar program—NASA hopes to return humans to the lunar surface in 2028.
One of the key objectives of “Artemis 3” will be docking practice using technologies and equipment developed by SpaceX and Blue Origin. The flight will last approximately two weeks, after which the crew will splash down in the Pacific Ocean.
