Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his country's interest in increasing mutual trade with Russia, expanding the range of goods sold, and establishing closer contacts between the business communities of the two countries. He made this statement during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
The head of state emphasized the particular importance Turkmenistan attaches to developing its strategic partnership with the Russian Federation. According to him, Russia has remained one of the country's leading trading partners for many years.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov also noted that the Russian Prime Minister's participation in the meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council demonstrates Moscow's commitment to further strengthening multilateral cooperation within the Commonwealth. Among the priority areas of bilateral cooperation, the head of state named interparliamentary ties, interaction with Russian regions, as well as partnerships in education, healthcare, science, and culture. The importance of the "Central Asia – Russia" format was particularly emphasized.
Mishustin arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council, which took place on May 22. Turkmenistan will chair the Commonwealth in 2026.
