Today, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Mahri Bashimova held a meeting with Cordula Wohlmuter, Acting Regional Director for Europe of UN Tourism.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the parties discussed current issues of cooperation. Promising areas of cooperation include digitalization and innovation, attracting investment, creating new jobs, enhancing the sustainability of the tourism industry, and preserving cultural and natural heritage.
Particular attention was paid to the prospects for cooperation within the Framework Program for Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN for 2026-2030.
The Turkmen side welcomed the proclamation of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism – 2027, as well as the launch of the corresponding Roadmap for its implementation in January 2026.
The parties also discussed practical aspects of cooperation, including a specialized UN Tourism training course on tourism management for students and national specialists held on April 15.
Turkmenistan confirmed its readiness to more actively participate in UN Tourism's electoral bodies. The participation of the Turkmen delegation in the 72nd session of the UN Regional Commission for Europe was also discussed, the source noted.
