Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent congratulations to Nizar Amedi on his election as President of the Republic of Iraq, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov wished the new Iraqi leader good health and success in all his endeavors for the benefit of the progress and prosperity of the people of the Republic of Iraq.

The Iraqi Parliament elected Nizar Amedi as president of the country on April 11, 2026. The candidate from the Kurdistan Patriots' Union received 227 votes out of 329 seats.
