On New Year's Eve, there is usually a wide variety of dishes on the table, from appetizers to desserts. They are all very tasty and tempting, so it’s easy to give in to temptation and eat too much.

How to organize a “belly celebration” without overeating?

Do not sit down to the table hungry

A holiday is not a reason to change your usual diet, to starve yourself during the day in order to more than pay for everything in the evening. Often this approach ends in overeating, heaviness in the stomach and other unpleasant consequences. On December 31, you should have a nutritious breakfast, a hearty lunch and a light dinner.

Think over the holiday menu: less fatty, more light dishes

- instead of mayonnaise, use sour cream, yogurt or olive oil;

- the table will be decorated with a plate of fresh vegetables and herbs;

- start your meal with something hot. Save salads and appetizers for later. Add them a little at a time and eat slowly to feel full;

- give up a lot of bread and pastries. It is better to choose a light dessert: fruit, jelly or ice cream. Cakes, pastries and other “heavy” delicacies are best left for the morning.

Set the table with small plates

Large plates create the illusion that the portion of food is smaller than it actually is.

Small plates are a visual trick for your brain. When you see that the plate is filled to the brim, the brain receives a signal that there is enough food and satiety will soon come.

Interrupt the feast for dancing or competitions

To avoid overeating at the holiday table, take breaks between meals. For example, you can dance, sing karaoke, hold a competition, or go on a visit.

Any movement will help you speed up digestion a little, burn extra calories and work up an appetite until your next meal.

If you cannot or do not want to move, psychologists recommend focusing on communicating with loved ones and friends. They say that a good conversation can be as much a source of pleasure as a festive feast.

Tomorrow will come

The festive table is bursting with treats, and you’re tempted to try everything. But it is important to remember that life does not end in one day. The morning of January 1 is sure to arrive and you need to be in shape to start the new year in a good mood.

Let New Year's Eve be a holiday of taste, fun and health for you!
