Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Serdar Muhammetdurdyev signed a book of condolences at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ashgabat in connection with the deaths of people in the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane, the press service of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission reported.

"Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Serdar Muhammetdurdyev visited the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Turkmenistan in connection with the declared Day of Mourning. On behalf of the Turkmen side, he conveyed sincere condolences to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan Mr. Gismet Gezalov in connection with the tragic air crash. S. Muhammeddurdyev left a note in the book of condolences opened at the Embassy, expressing deep sorrow and support to the brotherly Azerbaijani people at this difficult moment," the statement said.

An Azerbaijan Airlines plane flying from Baku to Grozny crashed on the morning of December 25 near the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan. According to the airline, there were 62 passengers and five crew members on board.

According to the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations, 29 people survived.

In connection with the plane crash on December 26, mourning was declared in Azerbaijan.
