Joe Biden has approved a legislative initiative to designate the bald eagle as the national bird of the United States, daily.afisha.ru reports, citing CNN. The bill has received unanimous approval in the US Congress.

The bald eagle has been a symbol of the United States' power for over 250 years. The bald eagle was first used on the Great Seal of the United States in 1782. The official emblem depicts the bird with a shield in the colors of the national flag, holding an olive branch and arrows, as well as the motto E Pluribus Unum and a constellation.

The bald eagle is a unique representative of the North American fauna. Unlike other eagles, this bird prefers to settle near sea coasts and large bodies of water, where it hunts mainly fish.
