The launch ceremony of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project took place in Jalal-Abad, Kyrgyzstan, the Chinese state-owned China Railway Group reported.
According to a company representative, the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is a strategic project for transport connections between China and Central Asia and a landmark cooperation project within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The railway will start In Kashgar, China (Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, northwest China), pass into Kyrgyzstan via the Torugart Pass, reach Jalal-Abad and end in Andijan in eastern Uzbekistan.
The three parties agreed that China will be responsible for the construction of the section in China, and Uzbekistan will be responsible for the modernization of the railway on its territory. The joint company China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Company is responsible for financing, construction and operation of the Kyrgyz section.
