The National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan (NRCST) is taking part in the statutory events of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which are taking place in Geneva from 27 to 31 October.
From 27 to 28 October, the Council of Delegates was held, where representatives of the National Societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent gathered to discuss current issues of humanitarian aid, exchange experiences and coordinate efforts in the field of humanitarian protection and assistance. The main topics for discussion and decision-making at the plenary session were:
- Protection within the Movement: improving our collective results in protecting people;
- Migration Strategy of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement 2024-2030;
- Weapons and international humanitarian law;
- War in the cities: a solemn appeal on behalf of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement;
- A call for respect and support for principled humanitarian action;
- Extension to 2030 of the Restoring Family Links Strategy for the International Movement of RC and RC for 2020-2025;
- Reaffirmation of the Movement’s role as a factor of peace and stability.
From 29 to 31 October, the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, the Movement’s highest governing body, will be held at the Geneva International Conference Centre. It will adopt relevant resolutions defining the Movement’s activities for the next 4 years.
The Conference brings together representatives of all National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, as well as representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The main topics of the forum are:
- Towards a universal culture of respect for international humanitarian law;
- Protecting civilians and other protected persons and objects from cyber and information operations during armed conflict;
- Strengthening disaster risk management through comprehensive disaster laws, policies and plans;
- Fostering local leadership, capacity development and service delivery in principled humanitarian action and building resilience;
- Protecting people from the humanitarian impacts of extreme climate and weather events: working together to strengthen proactive action.
On the sidelines of the conference, delegates will have the opportunity to discuss current issues of the Movement, network with each other, visit a humanitarian village and attend extra-curricular activities.
