Scientists from the University of Bergen (Norway) conducted a large-scale study revealing the connection between the personal characteristics of men and their attitudes towards women. The results of the work were presented in the scientific journal Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, writes gazeta.ru.
The study involved 473 single men aged 18-35. Scientists examined various aspects of their personality, including self-esteem of appearance, fear of rejection, level of loneliness, political views, presence of addictions and general perception of women.
It is interesting that the most negative attitude towards women was demonstrated by men who are at opposite poles of self-esteem: those who consider themselves exceptionally attractive, and those who rate their appearance extremely low. At the same time, the reasons for such an attitude are different: for the former, it may be associated with narcissistic tendencies, for the latter - with the projection of personal disappointments.
The study also found additional risk factors: adherence to authoritarian views with a belief in a rigid social hierarchy is often accompanied by a negative attitude towards women. In addition, scientists found a correlation between a tendency towards gambling addiction and manifestations of misogyny.
