The Central Referendum Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan (CRC) has announced the official results of the nationwide vote on the construction of a nuclear power plant, which took place on October 6, 2024. This referendum was the culmination of long discussions about the role of nuclear energy in the future of the country, reports the International Information Agency “Kazinform”.

According to the Central Committee of the Russian Federation, out of 12 284 487 citizens eligible to vote, 7 820 204 people took part in the referendum, which constituted 63,66% of the total number of voters. The turnout exceeded the threshold required to recognize the referendum as valid.

The results of the vote showed significant support for the development of nuclear energy in the country: 5 561 937 citizens, or 71,12% of participants, voted for a positive solution to the issue. Thus, the majority of Kazakhstanis who voted supported the idea of building a nuclear power plant.
