A new study conducted by scientists from the Department of Dermatology at the University of Florida has revealed unexpected rejuvenating properties of cranberry drink, especially for women over 40. The results of the experiment, published in the journal Nutrients, showed a significant improvement in the skin condition of the participants who regularly drank specially prepared cranberry juice, “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” reports.
In a six-week study, two groups of volunteers received either a cranberry drink or a placebo that was visually indistinguishable from the test product. Participants did not know which drink they were drinking. There was a three-week break between courses.
The cranberry drink, made from pure concentrated juice, contained a rich complex of bioactive substances: 193 mg of procyanidins, 19,5 mg of anthocyanins and 24,2 mg of flavonols per bottle.
Women who drank cranberry juice noted a noticeable improvement in the texture and elasticity of their skin. Objective measurements taken with special equipment confirmed an increase in skin elasticity. In addition, positive changes in the skin microflora and its lipid layer were recorded.
Interestingly, the most pronounced rejuvenating effect was observed in women aged 40 and older, while the drink did not have such a noticeable effect on younger participants.
