Turkmenistan and Sweden held political consultations in Stockholm

Turkmen-Swedish political consultations were held in Stockholm, during which the sides discussed the current state of bilateral relations and possibilities for their expansion. The Turkmen delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Mahri Bashimova, and the Swedish delegation was headed by Tobias Tyberg, Head of the Department of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Swedish Foreign Ministry.

According to the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the meeting touched upon the issues of global and regional agenda, including peace and security, counter-terrorism, environment, transportation and energy. Special attention was paid to the importance of active interaction within the framework of international organizations such as the UN, the OSCE and the EU.

The sides expressed willingness to develop inter-parliamentary cooperation. In this regard, an agreement was reached to hold an online meeting between the Friendship Groups of the two countries in October this year. They also discussed prospects for cooperation in the spheres of culture and education, including the possibility of organizing cross cultural days.

The Swedish side emphasized its interest in developing relations with Central Asian countries, particularly Turkmenistan. The parties agreed to explore opportunities for cooperation in the spheres of ecology, energy, as well as between the business communities of the two countries.

The consultations highlighted the importance of cooperation within the framework of the European Union's Global Gateway initiative and the study of new formats of interaction. The Turkmen side invited the Swedish delegation to take part in various events organized by Turkmenistan and suggested using international platforms to organize summit meetings.
