Renowned toy maker Lego has announced an ambitious plan to switch to environmentally friendly materials. According to The Guardian, the company intends to produce half of its plastic components from renewable or recycled materials by 2026, abandoning petroleum feedstock, writes snob.ru.

The move is part of Lego's larger strategy to become completely fossil-free by 2032. Although switching to alternative materials will increase production costs, the company is willing to invest in sustainability without raising prices for customers.

To achieve this goal, Lego plans to enter into long-term contracts with producers of environmentally friendly raw materials. The company has already tested more than 600 alternative materials in search of the optimal replacement for petroleum products.

Lego is willing to pay up to 70% more for certified renewable resin to boost its production growth. The company's suppliers have already begun using alternative sources such as vegetable oils and food waste instead of fossil fuels.
