Experts estimate the damage from the global Microsoft outage at billions of dollars. According to Bloomberg, the consequences of this incident were “incredibly wide”, affecting territories from Australia and Asia to the USA and Europe, writes MK.RU.

The airline industry was hit the hardest. Thousands of flights were canceled in different countries, and major US carriers, including United Airlines Holdings, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, suspended their operations. Huge queues have formed at airports around the world, problems have arisen with check-in for flights and the operation of payment systems.

The failure affected other areas: the London Stock Exchange suspended trading, and in Japan, McDonald's closed a third of its restaurants due to malfunctioning cash registers.

The cause of the “computer apocalypse” was an error in updating the software of the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. CrowdStrike Holdings shares fell 8,6% and the company faces multibillion-dollar lawsuits.

Oleg Panteleev, head of the analytical service of the “AviaPort” agency, notes that the exact amount of damage is still impossible to determine, but it will undoubtedly be colossal. He also suggests that CrowdStrike may not be able to withstand the financial claims and leave the IT market.
