India is experiencing unprecedented cold weather in the last few decades. The situation is particularly difficult in Kashmir, where Dal Lake has completely frozen over for the first time in a long time, “MIR 24” reports.
Locals have to make significant efforts to free their boats from the ice captivity and make their way across the frozen waters. People light fires on the streets of the city for warmth. Demand for winter clothes and blankets has increased sharply, as well as for the traditional baskets of hot ash that locals use to keep warm.
Extreme temperatures have affected several regions of the country, with some areas seeing temperatures drop to a record low of minus 18 degrees Celsius.
