The city of Ganja in Azerbaijan has been officially recognized as the Sports Capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The official ceremony of awarding the corresponding certificate was held with the participation of Deputy Director of the Department for Cooperation in Political, Humanitarian and Social Spheres of the CIS Executive Committee Manuchehr Khodjizoda, the website of the CIS Executive Committee reports.
The awarding of the honorary status is timed to coincide with the III CIS Games being held in Ganja. In honor of this event, sports shows and a concert were organized in the Heydar Aliyev Park and Complex Zone.
As noted by the CIS Executive Committee, the implementation of the Interstate Program "Sports Capitals of the Commonwealth" in Ganja will demonstrate the city's sports potential and will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the CIS countries in the field of physical culture and sports.
