A practical seminar for farmers was held in the eastern region of Turkmenistan

A practical seminar on the development of horticulture took place on March 5 in the city of Seydi, Dyanev etrap, Lebap velayat.

The seminar was organized within the framework of the project “Conservation and sustainable management of land resources and ecosystems of high natural value in the Aral Sea basin to obtain multiple benefits”, implemented by UNDP jointly with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.

The event was attended by representatives of the hyakimliks of the Dargan-ata and Dyanev etraps, specialists in agriculture and water resources management at the velayat and etrap levels, local garden farmers, representatives of agricultural enterprises and NGOs, as well as stakeholders from the pilot region of the project and employees of the Amudarya State Natural Resources reserve.

The training is one of a series of workshops aimed at creating a platform for sharing experiences and improving the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of local farmers in horticulture with the aim of increasing climate change resilience and improving the livelihoods of the local community.

At the seminar, experts in the field of fruit and berry crops of the Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, teachers of meteorology of the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute named after. Seydi, as well as experts in the field of water resources NGO "Tebigi Kuvat" from Ashgabat and "Eco-Durmush" from Dashoguz, presented sustainable practices and innovative approaches in the development of horticulture, adapted to the region.

Training participant, farmer Rozykulyeva Karyahan noted:

“The seminar gave us the opportunity to expand our knowledge, improve practical skills and get answers to many questions related to gardening on our plots.” She also noted that the information and handouts provided were written in a language that the average farmer could understand and were very useful.

This seminar was organized with the support of key project partners, including the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, the Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, as well as the hyakimlik of Lebap velayat and the hyakimliks of Darganata and Denev etraps.

The project “Conservation and sustainable management of land resources and ecosystems of high natural value in the Aral Sea basin to obtain multiple benefits” was launched in 2022 and aims to provide long-term solutions for the sustainable development and conservation of valuable ecosystems of the Turkmen Aral Sea region.
