The UN Development Program and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan signed a new two-year project: “Platform for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, phase 3.”

The new project is expected to contribute to sustainable development by strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan as the government body responsible for implementing SDG financing, formulating and implementing unified economic policies, strategies and key socio-economic measures to achieve the SDGs in the country.

Also, as part of efforts to facilitate Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO, UNDP plans to provide expert support together with international and national specialists, covering issues of services and investment, access to banking and financial markets, as well as analysis of tax legislation taking into account WTO requirements.

The signing of the project took place after a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. During the meeting, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the successful implementation and good results of the first and second phases of the “Platform for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals” project and approved the continuation of the project - the third phase, which will be implemented in 2024-2025 in close cooperation with UNDP in Turkmenistan.

The joint project “Platform for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals” between UNDP and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan was launched in 2018.
During its implementation, the project achieved significant success, which served as the basis for the proposal to begin its second and third stages.

The third phase of the project will focus on monitoring progress towards achieving the SDGs, studying international practices in financing sustainable development and taking steps to prepare for accession to the WTO.
