These days, in the city of Geneva (Switzerland), on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Turkmen delegation is taking part in the regular session of the Committee for the Implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), aimed at protecting their rights, TDH reports.

During the session, the sixth periodic report of Turkmenistan regarding the implementation of this UN Convention was considered. In their speeches, members of the delegation provided information on changes in the political, economic, legal and socio-cultural spheres for the period 2018–2023, which allowed significant progress in resolving a number of issues identified within the framework of the previous, fifth review cycle in 2018.

Thanks to the progressive policies of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, women in Turkmenistan are provided with all kinds of benefits, conditions are created for them to live a decent life and creative work, and gender equality is ensured at the legislative level. They work in government structures - legislative and executive bodies, participate in foreign policy activities, are successfully engaged in entrepreneurship, and make a significant contribution to the implementation of ambitious programs aimed at bringing the state to a number of developed countries in the world, the agency emphasizes.

At the same time, it should be noted that comprehensive work is being carried out in Turkmenistan to respect the rights and interests of women, support the family, and protect motherhood and childhood. The practical steps taken in this area are highly appreciated by the international community.

Another clear confirmation of this was the presentation to the Central Council of the Women's Union of Turkmenistan on November 29, 2023, on the sidelines of the 22nd CAREC Ministerial Conference, of a medal and a corresponding certificate for promoting gender equality of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program of the Asian Development Bank.

Let us recall that the Central Council of the Women's Union of Turkmenistan, along with the relevant organizations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the People's Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mongolia, took part in the competition announced by the ADB and held in several stages.

At the women's business forum, which took place last year in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, the Central Council of the Women's Union of Turkmenistan, which demonstrated high results in promoting gender equality and equal rights in society, was solemnly presented with the winner's award.

In the country, on the initiative of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, a national legislative system has been formed that guarantees the social security of women. In this regard, the necessary conditions have been created to support young families, improve the level of qualifications of young people, including women, provide them with education, and provide conditions for recreation.

All this clearly demonstrates that Turkmenistan takes a responsible approach to solving problems focused on specific goals in the field of gender policy, constructively interacting in this area with the UN and other international organizations.
