At the international forum, experts from Turkmenistan presented a strategy for transforming the transport sector, emphasizing its key role in solving global environmental problems. According to Deputy General Director of “TULM” OJSC Rahym Hanayev, transport today is one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions, generating almost a quarter of the world's carbon dioxide emissions.
The key point of the speech is the revolutionary thesis that transport can become not only a problem, but also a solution to the climate agenda. The speaker particularly emphasized:
“Sustainable transport is not only an option, but also a catalyst for progress on many areas of sustainable development”.
A concrete step in implementing this concept will be a large-scale infrastructure project – the electrification of the Turkmenabat-Turkmenbashy railway line, which is more than 1100 kilometers long. This ambitious plan will not only reduce CO2 emissions, but will also significantly increase the country's transit potential.
Key areas of transformation of the transport industry include:
Implementation of innovative low-carbon technologies
Development of multimodal transport systems
Digitalization of logistics processes
International cooperation in the field of sustainable development
The speaker noted that the upcoming UN Decade of Sustainable Transport, which starts in 2026, will become a unique window of opportunity for the global transformation of the transport industry.
