Turkmenistan was elected to the ECOSOC Commission on Population and Development

Turkmenistan was unanimously elected to the Commission on Population and Development of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2024-2028, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

The vote on this issue took place on December 5 during the regular ECOSOC meeting in New York with the participation of the delegation of Turkmenistan, represented by the leadership of the State Committee on Statistics.

The election of Turkmenistan to the Commission indicates recognition of the country’s contribution to solving problems of population and development, as well as Ashgabat’s active participation in international cooperation in this area.

The UN ECOSOC Commission on Population and Development is a functional body that advises ECOSOC on issues of general population policy, organizes research and dissemination of information on the processes of population movement, the interaction of demographic, economic and social factors.

Thanks to the support of Council members, Turkmenistan serves as a member of the Commission for two consecutive terms: 2016-2020 and 2020-2024.
