On October 20, the Turkmenistan kickboxing championship took place in the city of Arkadag, which determined the composition of the national team to participate in the upcoming world championship in Portugal, reports the Turkmenistan International Research Center.
Teams from all regions of the country took part in the national championship. Over the course of four days, more than 200 athletes of different weight categories competed in a bitter struggle for the title of best fighters. Participants competed for championship titles in the full contact discipline.
Kickboxing is one of the most popular sports in Turkmenistan. Currently, over 5 thousand athletes are engaged in these martial arts under the guidance of about 60 coaches. The Kickboxing Federation of Turkmenistan has been operating since 1992.
The country's large-scale championship demonstrated the high level of training of Turkmen athletes and their readiness to adequately represent their homeland at the upcoming World Championships, which will be held in Albufeira in November.
According to the results of the competition, athletes from Ashgabat became the leaders in the team competition with 5 gold medals. In second place are representatives of Lebap velayat with 3 victories.
Bronze medalists in the team competition are athletes from Dashoguz and Mary velayats, who won 2 gold awards each.
