The plane of the leading Japanese airline Japan Airlines was unable to take off due to the fact that there were 27 sumo wrestlers on board, writes “Komsomolskaya Pravda”.

The sumo wrestlers were scheduled to fly from Tokyo and Osaka to Amami Oshima Island to participate in the national sports festival. The average weight of a sumo wrestler is 120 kg, which is much more than the weight of the average Japanese passenger - about 70 kg.

It was not possible to use another, heavier aircraft to fly the sumo wrestlers - the airport runway on the island is not able to accommodate aircraft larger than a “Boeing 737-800”.

The airline decided to organize separate flights for the sumo wrestlers to take them to the island to participate in the festival and for the wrestlers to return home.
