A study by English scientists showed that men for whom fishing is a hobby have good mental health. During the experiment, more than 1700 people were interviewed. They answered questions about their fishing activities, as well as other factors including past mental illness, exercise and general well-being. This is described in the “MIR 24” report with reference to the publication of the “Epidemiology” magazine.
Survey participants who reported fishing regularly were nearly 17% less likely to have mental illness compared to men who fished infrequently.
At the same time, scientists warn that the positive health effects of fishing can be obtained if you do not drink alcohol during the process.
“The results suggest that frequent participation in recreational fishing may be a dual strategy to promote relaxation and positive mental health, as well as increased levels of physical activity in people with mental health problems”, - the study's source quotes the author as saying.
