The national football team of Turkmenistan got into the third basket during the draw of the Central Asian Football Championship.
Seven teams will take part in the tournament. In addition to Turkmenistan, these are Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Oman.
The team of Turkmenistan will definitely not play in the tournament with the national team of Afghanistan.
The draw for the CAFA Nations Cup 2023 will begin on April 26 at 14:00 Ashgabat time, the CAFA press service reports.
The tournament itself will be held from 9 to 21 June in Bishkek and Tashkent.
Based on the results of the draw, the teams will be divided into two groups. Matches in the quartet "A", where four teams will perform, will be held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). Games in group "B" with the participation of three teams will be held in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan).
According to the regulations of the CAFA Nations Cup 2023 tournament, at the group stage, the matches will be held in a round robin system in one round. Then the winners of the groups will meet in the final. Teams that take second place in their groups will compete for third place.
The composition of the draws for the CAFA Nations Cup 2023 tournament:
- Basket 1️: Iran, Uzbekistan (group host).
- Pot 2: Kyrgyzstan (group host), Tajikistan.
- Pot 3: Turkmenistan, Afghanistan.
