The summit of the Contact Group of the Non-Aligned Movement on Combating COVID-19 began in Baku today, which is attended by representatives of about 70 countries, including President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The summit is attended by the presidents of 5 countries - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Libya, the vice-presidents of three countries - Cuba, Gabon, Tanzania, the prime ministers of Algeria and Kenya, high-ranking representatives of various countries, as well as leaders international organizations - President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly Csaba Korosi, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Antonio Vitorino, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva Tatiana Valovaya, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO ) Khusrav Noziri and others, as well as ministers, deputy ministers, ambassadors.

The head of Turkmenistan arrived in the capital of Azerbaijan this morning. The First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov, Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and other officials met President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, decorated with the state flags of both countries.

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was formed in 1961 to defend the interests of developing countries in the context of the Cold War confrontation. At present, this international organization unites 120 states of the world on the principles of non-participation in military blocs. 19 countries, 9 international and 2 national liberation organizations have the status of observers.

Azerbaijan has chaired the NAM since 2019.
