Turkmenistan over the past year increased the export of electricity to foreign countries by 30% compared to 2021, reports Trend with reference to the report of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The increase in exports was due to the increase in production at a large complex of gas-fired power plants in the Mary region in the southeast of the country, the source said.

According to the IEA, in August 2021, Turkmenistan began exporting electricity to Kyrgyzstan, while already in the first half of 2022, increasing these supplies to 1,7 TWh.

In October 2022, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan agreed to increase electricity supplies to 4 TWh per year, which could improve the security of electricity supply in Uzbekistan, the report notes.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an organization that works with countries around the world to shape energy policies for a secure and sustainable future.
